Overview

The Employment Pass (EP) is a work visa scheme designed for foreign professionals with specialised skills, managers, and company directors who want to work and live in Singapore. This work visa allows you to live and work in Singapore, as well as travel in and out of the country without having to apply for entry visas.

An Employment Pass is usually valid for 1-2 years and can be renewed after. Possessing an EP also enables you to apply for permanent residence (PR) in Singapore.
If you or your colleague(s) are planning to relocate to Singapore to work for the new Singapore company, GLAC will help to apply for an Employment Pass (EP) with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

Requirements

The Employment Pass is for foreign professionals who:

  • Have a job offer in Singapore
  • Earn a minimum fixed salary of S$3,600 per month. This usually applies to young graduates. More experienced candidates who apply for more senior positions may need higher salaries to qualify.
  • Have acceptable qualifications, usually a good university degree, professional qualifications or specialised skills. Strong professional employment history and a high salary may compensate for a lack of formal qualifications.

Application for an Employment Pass is open to all nationalities. Do note that these are general guidelines. The authorities may review and make changes to the requirements at any time.

The Ministry of Manpower has provided a Self Assessment Tool to check a candidate’s eligibility for the Employment Pass. Although this tool generally is a good guideline, exceptions exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about the EP in Singapore

After the EP application has been submitted, it takes approximately three to four weeks or more, depending on the nature of the company and the profile of the candidate.
If the EP holder draws a minimum fixed monthly salary of S$6000, their spouse and children may apply for a family visa known as a Dependent’s Pass or a long-stay visitor visa known as a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP). Parents of successful EP holders can also apply for the LTVP, but the successful EP holder needs to draw a minimum salary of S$12,000 (from 1 January 2018 onwards) in order for them to qualify. Other terms, conditions, and restrictions may apply. Please contact GLAC for more details.
Before the application, GLAC will work closely with you to make sure that your chance of getting an approval is high. If your application is rejected, we will work closely with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to explore the possible reasons for the rejection. If appropriate, we will help you to submit an appeal that directly addresses these reasons. Appeals are usually processed within 4-6 weeks, and will likely be approved once the additional details submitted are deemed satisfactory by MOM.
